History

David Gibson founded Two Twelve in 1980 at 212 York Street, then home of Yale University’s Graphic Design Department. The company name took on a new meaning in 1983 when Two Twelve moved to New York City and the 212 area code, where it has resided ever since.

In 1994, a partnership with Ann Harakawa grew out of the graduate education she and David had shared at Yale.

In 2001, Two Twelve’s downtown offices at 90 West Street were destroyed by fire as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Fortunately, all staff survived without physical injury, but we lost nearly all of our business records, project documents, and archives of past work.

Since then, Two Twelve has completely rebuilt and recovered its business, relocating to the Flatiron District and continuing to deliver high quality work to high profile clients. Our ability to thrive in spite of the disaster bespeaks our creativity, resilience, and dedication to design as a positive force in our lives.

Over our three decades in business, Two Twelve has earned national recognition and awards, attracted and retained strong talent, and become a leader in our field. We are optimistic about the future as we continue to welcome opportunities to serve remarkable clients across the nation and around the world.
