TWO TWELVE LEADS SUSTAINABLE DESIGN EVENTS AT SEGD CONFERENCE

New York, NY, June 2, 2007 Two Twelve, the public information design firm, was featured in several events at the 2007 SEGD Conference sponsored by the Society for Environmental Graphic Design and held in Boston from May 30 - June 2, 2007. Personnel from Two Twelve led seminal sessions on sustainable design, participated in the publication of the new SEGD Green Paper, and led a tour of a local hospital project.

At this gathering of signage and wayfinding design leaders, Two Twelve demonstrated its environmental mission in two sessions covering Sustainable Strategies and Applications.

At the Part 1 Tech Session on Friday, June 1st, a panel presented some of the topics covered in a new SEGD Green Paper authored by several SEGD members including Naomi Pearson, Two Twelve's senior designer/manager of sustainable design. The SEGD Green Paper is a thought leadership piece on incorporating sustainable principles in environmental graphic design practices.

Through examples, the panelists showed how strategies related to recyclability, air quality, waste management, energy consumption, environmental education and other green concepts may be applied during the design and fabrication processes. In addition to Ms. Pearson from Two Twelve, Harry Spetnagel from Gensler, and Michael Santos of Nova Polymer also participated.

In Part 2 of the Sustainable Strategies and Applications module, Two Twelve displayed and discussed mock-ups of actual signs (examples at left) designed by Ms. Pearson that employ some of the sustainable considerations, materials, and techniques introduced at Friday's Tech Session. The presentation focused on 212's collaboration with Visual Graphic Systems (VGS) to produce the mockups, and illustrated how designers and fabricators can form relationships to find sustainable solutions.

The session also included Maura Mathews of Two Twelve, Lorraine Conte and Lauren Vallier of VGS, Harry Spetnagel of Gensler, Mike Santos of Nova Polymer, and Bryan Stockdale of Winsor Fireform.

In a separate part of the conference program on Friday, Two Twelve principal David Gibson led a tour at Children's Hospital Boston, the Harvard Medical School affiliate, where his signage and wayfinding system designs have been installed to help patients and visitors navigate the complex medical campus. Mr. Gibson is a long time supporter, member and past president of SEGD.
