SIGNAGE FOR VORNADO'S 731 LEXINGTON PROPERTY COMPLEMENTS ICONIC BUILDING

New York, NY, March 01, 2006— Two dramatic new identification signs designed by Two Twelve have been installed at the two major entrances to a mixed-use building developed by Vornado Realty Trust at 731 Lexington Avenue in New York City. The "731" sign over the office entrance and the Beacon Court pylon marking the entrance courtyard complement the striking architecture by Cesar Pelli & Associates Architects and make the property easy to identify from the street.

"It's an important building and a premium address," said Two Twelve principal David Gibson, who led the design effort, "Vornado, Pelli and Two Twelve recognized the need for environmental graphic design solutions that are as exceptional in quality of design and functionality as every other aspect of the development."

The building occupies the entire block between Lexington and Third Avenues, 58th and 59th Streets. It is home to the Bloomberg organization's New York headquarters, One Beacon Court residential condominiums, the new Le Cirque restaurant, and a number of other premium retail tenants at street level.

The "731" address sign over the office building entrance is 14' tall, constructed of sheet steel and frost white translucent acrylic, finished with automotive paint, and features an internal array of LEDs for illumination.

The pylon on 58th Street marks the entrance to the building’s distinctive elliptical courtyard. The pylon is approximately 27’ tall, made of 5/16” thick steel plate, with blue acrylic, rear-illuminated cut-out letters. Illumination comes from a 150-watt metal halide lamp and a 10’ high clear Plexiglas® light tube with a reflector at the top to capture and diffuse light evenly. The top of the pylon emits a rear-illuminated linear “beacon” light constructed of frost white translucent acrylic. The beacon is illuminated with a series of white LED’s, designed on pre-fabricated boards for easy removal and maintenance. The metal base is finished with high-gloss Dupont Imron automotive paint.

Two Twelve collaborated with American Architectural Incorporated, Ornamental Metal and Glass (Pylon & dimensional letter fabricators), Thornton-Tomasetti Group (Engineering) and Cline Bettridge Bernstein (Lighting Design) on various aspects of the construction and installation.
