Opened in Baltimore in 1889, The Johns Hopkins Hospital is widely regarded as one of the world's premiere academic medical institutions. As part of The Johns Hopkins' Medical Campus Master Plan, Two Twelve has been engaged by Perkins + Will to create a signage and wayfinding system for the construction of a New Clinical Building. Housing both the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children's Center and the Sheikh Zayed Tower, the New Clinical Building adds over 560 new inpatient beds and over one million square feet of lab, diagnostic, emergency, specialty, and support facilities. Work is ongoing to implement a multidisciplinary visual communication design strategy that integrates existing and new wayfinding elements to facilitate and enhance the experience of approaching and entering the new building, and finding specific destinations within the complex. The New Clinical Building is scheduled to open in early 2012.
