Home of the legendary "Showtime at the Apollo" and "Amateur Night," and launch pad for performing arts icons Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and James Brown, Harlem’s Apollo Theater is an historic landmark that welcomes over 1.3 million visitors a year. As part of a $25 million restoration project, Two Twelve provided environmental graphic design consulting services to the Apollo and Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners. Our work included updating the theater’s iconic marquee with energy-efficient LED illuminated lettering; designing temporary graphics for construction barricades; and developing the permanent "Walk of Fame," a stunning display that honors the institution's illustrious performers and their rich contributions to American culture. The Walk design scheme combines elements of the Apollo's period architecture, the intricate patterning of African Kinte cloth, and the iconography of live theater.
