Lincoln Center, New York’s premier arts and theater destination, has undergone a wave of renovation - one component  was the David H. Koch Theater, formerly known as the New York State Theater. During the development of the wayfinding and donor program, Two Twelve collaborated extensively with three entities: the resident companies, the New York City Ballet and New York City Opera; the Theater management; and the City Center for Music and Drama. In line with the original Philip Johnson design, Two Twelve’s signage designs are refreshingly straightforward while subtly integrating into the interior architecture.

To achieve signage illumination level that is appropriate for wayfinding without compromising the architectural experience, we introduced glowing, thin-stroked letters which delineate the different tiers and direct visitors simply and cleanly to their seats. In conjunction with JCJ Architecture and Diller Scofidio + Renfro, we helped transform the lobby to provide visitors with a welcoming ambience – an extension of the glorious entertainment experience that awaits inside the theater.
