Built for longevity, Chicago’s urban park system is one of the nation’s finest and largest with over 552 parks. With the future in mind, we developed a standards manual to facilitate the Park District’s signage fabrication and maintenance, to be implemented across all parks. Our comprehensive survey of this vast urban acreage included a study of conditions and personalities of the District’s many cultural destinations and the general diverse contours of the land. We designed a signage program and placement recommendations that exist in harmony with the environment and unifies the manifold parks. The entire park system is accessible for all user-groups, and incorporates multiple languages into the signage program.

The City of Chicago and Mayor Daley were so pleased with the outcome of this project that they subsequently hired us to design signage guidelines for the public signs on Chicago’s Streetscape. We created a comprehensive manual that sets guidelines and policy standards that would allow the city to implement and maintain the program into the future.
