Home to more than 30,000 students, University of Connecticut (UConn) is a prestigious public research university that has been growing and excelling since 1881. In 2015, UConn underwent several new development projects. UConn engaged Two Twelve to design the university’s Wayfinding Manual, including a comprehensive and versatile wayfinding and signage program that would support both a collegiate and medical campus.

Our design team worked within UConn’s broader vision, developing a comprehensive wayfinding strategy that accommodates the specific needs of varying user groups: from students, professors, and visitors studying and working on campus, to patients, staff and visitors navigating the healthcare services which are part of UConn’s medical school. Integrating our strategies from the Wayfinding Manual, we developed our designs to represent the UConn brand, integrating the university’s visual identity, voice, heritage, energy of UConn Huskies basketball team, streetscape elements and landscape to unify the user experience across the diverse campus environments and make UConn’s campus more accessible. To enhance our design system, we devised a prominent placemaking graphic at the heart of the campus.

To celebrate the school’s dynamic Division I sports culture, Two Twelve also created a comprehensive strategy for vehicular and pedestrian navigation. We help make game day more fun by alleviating stress for visitors and generating a welcoming and comfortable experience for the crowds of fans who attend the events.
